6000 caregivers will enter Canada before 2021 comes to an end

Canada’s immigration government expects to complete 6,000 permanent residency applications for caregivers by December 31, 2021.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced in a statement on April 15 that it will process applications for caregivers who have completed their in-Canada work experience, as well as their immediate family members.

By June 30, 2021, the Department of Health and Human Services made at least 1,500 first-stage determinations on applications for the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots.

The IRCC will be able to grant more caregiver work permits to those with valid job vacancies to work for families in Canada if these determinations are prioritized. According to the statement, the pandemic is having an impact on IRCC operations, particularly on paper applications, as office closures have forced more employees to work remotely.

The new guideline came into force on May 3, 2021. Those who applied for the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilot programs in 2020 don’t have to reapply, says the IRCC.

The Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots were dispatched in 2019. These pathways to extremely durable homes for parental figures offer occupation-explicit work licenses, instead of manager explicit work grants. This implies parental figures don’t need to stay attached to one boss as long as they are as yet working in their occupation. Around 2,900 parental figures and their relatives became super durable occupants in 2020.

As of March 3, 2021, there were applications for around 12,000 parental figures and they’re going with relatives in IRCC’s handling stock. This incorporates applications to both the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots, yet additionally the cases that IRCC is as yet concluding from past parental figure programs.

As of April 8, 2021, IRCC got an expected 2,367 applications for the Home Child Care Provider Pilot. This addresses around 86% of the number of uses that can be acknowledged for 2021. For the Home Support Worker Pilot, IRCC has gotten an expected 516 applications, addressing around 19% of the number of uses that can be acknowledged in 2021.

Eligibility for Novel Immigration Pathways

Caregivers who are already in Canada may also have the option to apply for permanent residence through the recently announced permanent residence pathway for key workers.

Starting May 6, Canada accepted 30,000 new permanent residents with one year of key occupation experience. Nursing professions, NOC 4411 and 4412, are considered eligible professions under this new program.

In addition, IRCC will also open the doors to 20,000 healthcare workers and 40,000 international student graduates who are already living in Canada. In total, these temporary programs are expected to allow 90,000 foreign nationals to become Canadian permanent residents.
