Alberta’s new immigration program for tech professionals

In Alberta, a new fast-track immigration program for tech workers has been launched. On January 13, Alberta’s immigration minister Tyler Shandro announced the Accelerated Tech Pathway.

To be eligible, professionals must have a profile in the federal government’s Express Entry system and meet eligibility requirements for the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

There are around 3,000 tech firms in Alberta, and the technology industry has expanded 233% since 2012. Tech businesses, on the other hand, still have a hard time recruiting staff, especially sales and technical talent.

In order to be eligible for the tech pathway, Express Entry applicants must have a work offer or be presently working for an Alberta-based business in an eligible occupation.

The AINP verifies that you fulfill the minimal criteria for the Alberta Express Entry Stream. If you qualify, the AINP will send you an email to apply for a provincial nomination. You can’t submit an application without it, and no other AINP stream’s nomination can be used to apply for this pathway.

If you obtain a nomination from Alberta, you have 30 days to accept it using your online Express Entry profile. Your Express Entry score will increase by 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points when you accept the nomination.
