Alberta’s Opportunity Stream has arrived – Express Entry

The province has disclosed details of its long-awaited Express Entry linked stream. The province of Alberta unveiled two new Express Entry linked stream (AINP) which were supposed to be introduced in January but was delayed till now.

A dedicated stream in Express Entry will now allow Alberta to invite candidates to apply for the provincial nomination in federal Express Entry pool. Candidates having strong connections to Alberta and who can support the government in economic development will be invited to apply.

The candidates who receive a nomination from the Canadian province gets 600 points extra and these points get added to Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and are prioritized for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)

The new Express Entry stream will accept applications under its new Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) and Self-Employed Farmer Stream from 14th June. AOS (Alberta Opportunity Stream)has replaced its Strategic Recruitment Stream and Employer-Driven Stream under one program. But the applications submitted under these two streams on or before June 14, 2018, will be accepted for processing.

To be eligible for Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS):

  • Candidate must be currently working in Alberta for full-time in an eligible occupation
  • Candidate must fulfill minimum eligibility criteria of language, occupation, education, employment status, work experience and income etc.

Self-Employed Farmer Stream

To be eligible for Self-Employed Farmer Stream:

  • Candidate must have a farm management experience and financial resources to establish and purchase a farm in Alberta.

The requirement for Education, Language, and Income for AOS:

  • Education criteria: Applicants must have completed a minimum of high school in their country of origin for Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) from 14, June 2018 to December 31, 2019.
  • From January 1, 2021, the candidate should have completed a minimum of high school education equivalent to Alberta standards for the eligibility in Alberta Opportunity Stream.
  • Language criteria: Until June 13, 2019, the candidate must meet CLB 4 (Canadian Language Benchmark) or NCLC 4 (Niveaux de compétenceLinguistiqueCanadiens)
  • Starting from June 14, 2019 candidates must meet CLB 5 and NCLC 5.
  • Income criteria: Applicants need to show a gross annual income level of $21,833 for a single applicant (from June 14, 2018, to December 31, 2019).
  • The criteria will increase to gross annual income of $ 23, 392 per single applicant starting from January 1, 2020.
