Australia opens PR pathway for 117 occupations in Northern Territory
Northern Territory has opened doors to PR for 117 occupations. Low-skilled migrants working in NT (Australia) can apply for PR now. Foreign workers can now obtain Australian PR if they are willing to work and live in NT (Northern Territory) for 3 years.
This new Visa scheme is introduced by the Australian government to distribute the immigrant population away from the major cities like Melbourne and Sydney. The new Visa stream is known as Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA). This scheme is currently been introduced in Warrnambool region in Victoria and Northern Territory of Australia as they are suffering from a shortage of labor and are in need of population boost.
DAMA was already there in NT but however, it did not offer a pathway to PR. The new DAMA came into effect from 1st January 2019 provides a pathway for PR.
The government is working on improving the immigration system so that they can meet the specific needs of regional areas. But more focus is on filling the skill gaps with help of immigration.
