John McCallum, the Immigration Minister of Canada suggested that they will let more immigrants enter Canada in the year 2017’. He also regarded it as a “good policy for Democratic reasons”. Some of the Canadian Government officials suggested an increase of their quota will be beneficial for the country. The quota suggests that the number of immigrants will reach up to 3,00,000 people in 2017. McCallum also said that raising the quota up to 3,00,000 immigrants has laid a permanent foundation for their future immigration growth.

“I do believe it is a good policy for democratic reasons” as quoted by McCallum.”

Like many other countries, Canada has an aging population, which would pose a challenge for their Economic Growth. So, letting more immigrants or rather younger immigrants will help the Country to be able to function properly and help in the growth of their economy. The aging population will not help in any of those things. Since, Canada is a large country with a really less population, they do need more and more people in order to function properly as a country itself.

An economic advisory council at the finance minister Bill Morneau’s office, also recommended that Canada must increase its annual immigration target to 450,000 in the next 5 years to attract top and experienced talent to their companies in Canada.

“This is an achievable number for some date in the future, but certainly not for 2017,” said McCallum, who agreed with the recommendations.

In the next year’s plan, the number of immigrants under the economic growth category will rise to 172,000 from 1,60,600 this year, the Canadian Government said. The number of refugees will decrease from 55,800 to 40,000.
