Canada to release new Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024 by February

The Canadian government will provide a comprehensive update in February when it unveils its Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024.

Canada’s immigration targets for this year, as well as the number of new immigrants it will seek to welcome under its different economic, family, and humanitarian class programs, will all be outlined in the announcement.

Under the current Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) aims to welcome 411,000 new permanent residents to Canada in 2022. IRCC met its objective of landing 401,000 immigrants in 2021, which was the highest number in Canadian history. IRCC achieved the target last year while dealing with the harsh epidemic environment by concentrating on converting temporary residents who live in Canada to permanent status.

Proponents of higher immigration levels advocate that Canada needs more immigrants to help support its post-pandemic economic and financial recovery, as well as to address labour shortages. Higher targets are also be backed by the argument that they will allow IRCC to clear its waitlists faster.

Anyway, we won’t be guessing for long, as the February 11 deadline approaches.
