How to maintain Canadian pr status?

Once you are done with the procedure of becoming a Canadian Permanent Resident(PR), you are still bound to maintain you PR Status by the Legislative requirements. A lot of people misunderstand Canadian PR Status with that of a Citizenship status.

Furthermore, there are many exceptions to being physically present in Canada that will allow you to Maintain your Canadian PR Status. Also, it must be noted that these exceptions have a legal significance. Let’s review what you need to do to maintain your PR Status.

A Canadian Permanent Resident must reside two out of every five-year period, in order to maintain his status. This means you must be physically present for 730 days out of 1825 days.

Let’s take an example. If you became a permanent resident on January 1st, 2010 and you   left Canada on January 2nd, 2010, and plan to return to Canada on January 1st, 2015. But in this case you will only have been in Canada for just 1 day. Your PR Visa may be valid till December 31st, 2015 but you have not met the Permanent Residency requirement of 730 days in Canada. In this case, you PR status will be revoked by the Authorities. The officials start monitoring the duration of your stay in Canada, and if you have not met the requirements then you will lose you PR status.

Obviously the easier thing is to stay in Canada for 730 days or more until such time as you are eligible to apply for the Canadian Citizenship. Canadian PR Status comes with many facilities for you. So, you have to make sure when you receive your PR Visa status, you fulfill all the required procedure. You can exit and re-enter Canada whenever you have too, you do not have to stay for 730 days continuously. But the 730 days’ criteria have to be met!
