Highest cut-offs since February seen in Alberta’s small PNP draw

On November 24, Alberta invited 100 Express Entry candidates to file for a provincial nomination.

Given that the bulk of this year’s Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) draws have welcomed more than 200 candidates at a time, it was a comparatively small draw. In January, only one other draw was smaller than 100, and the least was 50.

The minimum score necessary for an Alberta draw was also quite high, at 350 points. Only one other draw this year, in January, had a higher cut-off score of 360.

The number of nominations that Alberta can provide each year is established by the federal immigration agency, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Alberta will be able to offer 6,250 nomination certificates in 2021. Alberta has been granted 6,094 nomination certificates so far this year. This could explain why the draw was so small, given the scarcity of nomination credentials.

According to the government website, there are roughly 400 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 825 expressions of interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool as of December 7.

The Alberta Express Entry programme is a more advanced version of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). It enables the provincial government to scan the federal government’s Express Entry pool of candidates for candidates who might be qualified for a provincial nomination.

The Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program all use Express Entry as their application management system.

You will be given a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System if you are eligible for Express Entry (CRS). You earn points based on your age, education, work experience, English or French language skills, and other things.

IRCC runs Express Entry drawings on a regular basis, asking the top-scoring individuals to apply for permanent residency.

It is possible to immigrate without a provincial nomination through the Express Entry system; however, persons with lower CRS scores may choose to apply for a PNP. Provincial nominees receive an automatic 600-point boost to their overall score. If the lowest-scoring candidates in the new Alberta lottery are nominated, their new CRS scores will be 900, which will be more than enough to be invited to the next Express Entry draw.

You must have work experience in a relevant occupation to be eligible for a provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream.

The AINP does not provide a list of occupations that are eligible for the stream; instead, it provides a list of occupations that are not. Foodservice supervisors, transport truck drivers, and cooks are among the jobs available to those who apply under this stream.

Work experience, a Canadian education, or a job offer in Alberta are all characteristics that boost your chances of getting nominated. It also helps if you have a family member, such as a parent, kid, or sibling, who lives in Alberta.
