How To Immigrate To Australia As Skilled Worker

Australia is highly popular destination among aspiring immigrants primarily because the country offers a lot of opportunities for skilled workers. In the year 2015-2016 the country had over 128,500 places up for grabs under the General Skilled Migration (Skill select) program. Under the Skill Select program skilled workers have the opportunity to gain a permanent residency visa, primarily using their qualifications, language proficiency and work experience in order to meet the Australian Immigration requirements.

Australia requires so many skilled workers due to these specific requirements:

  • Skilled workers who can directly contribute to the economic conditions and fill in the void in the labour market due to insufficient labour availability in the Australian market.
  • Skilled workers are also in high demand due to very high value occupations, which require highly skilled workers who are not available in Australia.
  • The job requirement is very specific and primarily demand driven rather than supply driven.
  • The skilled worker requirement is complimentary to the Australian training and employment programs.

So the question that plays in the mind of many aspiring immigrants is how do immigrate to Australia as a skilled worker?

Australia’s skilled visa has two options:

  1. Employers Sponsored Visas
Refers to the Visa where an individual has an Employer who has a temporary or permanent job for you and is willing to sponsor you for the same.
  • Temporary Employer Sponsored
  • Permanent Employer Sponsored
  • Permanent Employer Sponsored (Region Specific)
  1. Points Tested Visas
In points tested visas an individual has to demonstrate that you have the knowledge, skill set, proficiency of language required for performing a certain job. Therefore you need to clear the points test, a skills assessment and meet up the other basic requirements like proficiency in English language.
  • Temporary state/territory or family sponsored (region specific)
  • Permanent skilled – independent
  • Permanent skilled – state/territory or family sponsored
  • Permanent skilled – state /territory or family sponsored (region specific)

The requirement for skilled migration to Australia is dynamic and varies based in the economy and job market.
