According to a new report by Statistics of Canada, there was an increase in vacancies in every province of Canada especially British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec were reported the largest year-over-year increase in vacancies during the span from July to September 2018.

There were 555,000 jobs in Canada during the 3rd quarter in 2018, which was an increase in 83,000 in the same quarter in 2017. This was the eighth consecutive quarter with an increase in both the job vacancies and job vacancy rate as per the report.

Job openings in Quebec rose to 31,020, which was an increase of 35.5 percent over the third quarter of 2017. Most of the openings were in health care and social assistance, manufacturing sectors, accommodation, and food services.

In Ontario, job vacancies increased by 22,465 which was an increase of 12.2 percent compared to the 3rd quarter of 2017. The health care and social service sector of Ontario posted most of the vacancies during this quarter.

British Columbia had an increase by 17,950, or 19.4 percent mostly in construction sector compared to the third quarter of 2017.

Alberta reported an increase of 5,100 more vacancies in the third quarter of 2018 compared to the previous year which was an increase of 9.5 percent. The major sector with the job vacancies was in health care and social assistance.
