IRCC Announces Expansion of Biometric Program

IRCC announces expansion of biometrics

IRCC (Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada) made an announcement this month revealed that they will be expanding Canada’s Biometrics Program.  This will be applicable to all foreign nationals (unless exempt) applying for Immigration Programs to submit their biometric information (fingerprints and digital photograph).

At present, biometric is required for candidates applying for visitor visa or tourist visa or other temporary visa and for citizenship. But the expansion of biometric program clearly means that the Permanent Resident aspirants will have to submit their biometrics.

About Biometrics Program

  • Biometrics are taken in order to take proper identification of individuals coming to the country for a temporary resident. The practice of biometrics is followed by the country since 20 years. And currently applicable to 30 nationals applying for a temporary visa which includes, temporary resident visa, work permit, study permit and sometimes refugee claimants.
  • An announcement has been done by IRCC (Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada) for the expansion of Biometric Program to be rolled out in 2018-2019.
  • Though, IRCC has still not released the new requirements required for Immigration application.
  • Once implemented these amendments will strengthen border screening processes and Canada’s immigration process by verification and biometrics collection.
