Latvia is a country in Northern Europe. It borders the Baltic Sea. Latvia is facing shortage of skilled workers, especially Information Technology (IT) workers. So if you have skills in IT or degree in IT then you may have a good chance of getting a work visa to Latvia.

The government of Latvia is encouraging Indians to come and study in universities in Latvia. Those who want to migrate to Latvia on a permanent basis can opt for a graduation or post-graduation course in a Latvian university. Doing a course in IT can help one get a job in Latvia and permanent residency and citizenship in due course. English is widely spoken and understood in Latvia. It is also one of the mediums of instruction in universities and colleges of the country.

Latvia is a member of European Union and European Monetary Union. It is part of Schengen zone. This means that if one gets citizenship of Latvia, one would be eligible to move and work in every country of Schengen zone.

Moving to Latvia would also give one the same good quality of life that is there in other European countries. The disadvantage is that salary levels in Latvia are much lower than in other countries of Europe. Most companies and businesses follow the low-cost business model. They therefore hesitate in giving very high salaries to employees. The relatively low salary level is one major reason why Latvia is facing shortage of skilled workers.

Besides IT workers, Latvia also faces shortage in some other engineering related lines. It also faces shortage of machinists. Machinists are those who are skilled at working on industrial machinery. There is also shortage of blue-collar workers for menial office jobs.

Overall, Latvia is a good opportunity for those who want to migrate to Europe. The current environment is one where it has become more difficult to migrate to developed countries. Public sentiments against immigration in these countries are high. Latvia definitely stands out in such a scenario, with its welcoming approach towards immigrants.
