The examination will include physical and blood/urine tests to screen for any serious illnesses that could present a public health risk. The examination must be done within a specified time frame, which is usually six months before your application is submitted.

The medical examination must be done by a doctor on the panel of physicians authorized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (IRCC). You can find a list of these doctors on the IRCC website. Who needs to give the Medical Examination for Canada Visa

It is important to note that a medical examination is not required for every applicant. For example, suppose you are applying for a temporary visa. In that case, you will not need to undergo a medical examination if you are planning to stay in Canada for less than 6 months unless you plan to work in a specific type of job. However, if you are applying for permanent residency, you will need to meet the medical requirements. 

There are a few exceptions to the medical examination requirement. These include:

• Applicants who are under the age of 18
• Applicants who have already undergone a medical examination for their temporary resident visa
• Applicants who are applying for a permanent resident card from within Canada
• Applicants who have been living in Canada for less than six months and have not had any contact with the Canadian health care system during that time

What to Expect When Going for Medical Examination for PR

The candidate will be asked questions based on a questionnaire. For example, questions about pre-existing medical conditions, current medications etc. A candidate has the right to a chaperone, being able to stop the exam at any point in time, have a staff member present during the examination and receive a copy of the results.

You’ll undergo a physical exam. The doctor or medical clinic staff will:

• weigh you
• measure your height
• check your hearing and vision
• take your blood pressure
• feel your pulse
• listen to your heart and lungs
• feel your abdomen
• check how your limbs move
• look at your skin

Depending on age, you may be asked to do chest x-rays and laboratory tests.

It’s important to note that you will need to undergo a separate medical examination if you plan on applying for a work permit or study permit. The requirements and cost for these examinations differ from those for permanent residency. The cost would vary from examiner to examiner.

Post Examination Preparation

Once you have completed the medical examination, the panel physician will send a report to IRCC. If you are found to be in good health, your application will proceed to the next stage. The processing of your application may be delayed if the results of your medical exam are not received by the immigration authorities. However, if you are found to have a medical condition that could pose a risk to public health or safety, your application will be refused.

Know about the Grading System

The grading system is the process of categorizing medical conditions. The panel physician will assign a grade to your condition based on their assessment.

There are three grades:

Grades	Meaning
A	The applicant is in good health and poses no threat to public health or safety.
B	The applicant has a medical condition that could pose a risk to public health or safety but can be controlled with medication or treatment
C	The applicant has a medical condition that cannot be controlled with medication or treatment and poses a threat to public health or safety

In order to be approved for permanent residency, you must receive a grade of A or B. If you receive a grade of C, your application will be refused.
