On May 6, Saskatchewan invited 259 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence.

Candidates who could be eligible for a nomination through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), specifically the International Skilled Worker category, were sent invitations. 136 people may be registered for the SINP’s Express Entry subcategory, while 123 people may be nominated for the Occupations In-Demand subcategory.

The two new draws resulted in fewer invitations than the previous selection round through Saskatchewan’s International Skilled Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) system. The province manages the pool of applicants for the Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand subcategories using an EOI system.

In order to be invited, candidates required an EOI score of at least 70, regardless of the stream. They also required Educational Credential Assessments to show that their foreign education met Canadian standards, as well as job experience in one of the 63 in-demand occupations listed on the government’s webpage.

About the Occupations In-Demand subcategory

Those who do not have an Express Entry profile can apply under the Occupations In-Demand sub-category.

Experienced workers in an in-demand occupation and not having a job offer in the province are eligible to apply.

Though, foreign nationals are required to create an EOI profile through the SINP’s online application system to apply for Canadian immigration through this sub-category.

Candidates will be assessed based on their work, experience, education, language proficiency, age, and connections in the province. They are then given a score out of 100 based on the SINP’s International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid. The top-scoring applicants are then invited to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada.

About the Express Entry sub-category

Express Entry manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s main economic-class immigration programs, i.e.:  Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

Those having an Express Entry profile are also required to create EOI profiles for Saskatchewan to be considered for an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination.

Candidates with Express Entry profiles will be rewarded with an additional 600 points in their CRS score for receiving a provincial nomination from the province of Saskatchewan.
