Types of temporary resident visas

Types of temporary resident visas

There are three types of Temporary resident visas

The Single-entry visa

  • It allows a foreign national to enter Canada just once during the entire validity of the visa;
  • It may be issued up to 6 months prior to the date of arrival
  • It has an expiry date of at least one month post the date of arrival in Canada.

A temporary resident who has entered Canada on a single-entry visa may re-enter Canada.

It is possible if they have visited the United States within the period originally authorized for their stay in Canada

Multiple-entry visa

  • It allows the candidate to be eligible to enter Canada from any country as many times as necessary during the entire validity of the visa
  • It is issued with long-term validity to make sure that legitimate travelers get entry into Canada
  • It has a maximum validity  of up to ten years or a month prior the expiry date on the travel document
  • It can still be valid but it has to be affixed in an expired travel document (in such a case, the person must have a fresh and valid travel document and have to submit both travel documents to the airline authorities to travel to Canada and to the customs and immigration officers to seek entry into Canada).

Transit visa

Foreign citizens who are required to have a visa for travel to Canada also have to carry a transit visa to explore Canada without stopping or visiting. This visa is mandatory even if the foreign citizen is visiting Canada for less than 48 hours. Transit visa is free of cost

Transit Without Visa Program allows the foreign citizen who meet certain requirements to transit through Canada while they are on their way to and from the USA..
