The Bureau of Immigration-India has commenced a new online Electronic Service system, to help in applying and processing, visa related services, in the Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO), existing in Delhi, Mumbai Bangalore, and Chennai.

The new system has been introduced, in these cities only, but is expected, to serve more FRROs and FROs across India, in the future. It is expected to become a nation-wide standard.

The changes made:

It will take effect immediately; and the portal permits, foreigners residing in India, to submit their applications, seeking visa extension, and residence registrations, through the electronic medium, to the designated FRRO.

The new system will accept payments, and send text messages/email alerts, and also give an update on status.

Users need not visit the FRRO, to seek residential permits, and the permit will be issued, and delivered, using the electronic medium, or through the post.
