In the first quarter of 2018, Quebec has topped in job vacancies from the rest of provinces of Canada. Nearly, 462,000 job vacancies are there across Canada in 2018, with Quebec reporting the increase in job vacancies year-over-year- according to a report from Statistics Canada.

In the first quarter of 2018, Quebec had 25,000 vacancies which were an increase of 37% from the first three months of 2017. Job vacancies have increased in eight Canadian provinces and three territories, with British Columbia and Quebec at the highest posting list. The data shows that job vacancies are increasing in the industrial sector and occupational sector across all the provinces compared to the first quarter of 2017.

Quebec managed a seventh consecutive quarter that showed an increase in the number of vacancies year-over-year in the province. The sectors with high demand are manufacturing, accommodation, food services, and industrial sector are increasing most. Montreal has posted the greatest increase in job vacancies. Quebec’s unemployment rate has gone down from 6.2 percent from the first quarter of 2017 to 5.5 percent in the first quarter of 2018.

The Liberal government of Quebec has estimated that nearly one million job vacancies will be filled by 2024 and immigration has a major role to play to fill this gap.
