On October 7, Nova Scotia performed two drawings, inviting a total of 330 Express Entry individuals with specialized job experience to apply.

286 persons were invited to the larger of the two drawings. This group had a job offer in Nova Scotia and had worked in a skilled occupation for at least a year. A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of at least 5 in English was also required.

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) also invited 44 carpenters with a CLB 5 in English and at least two years of skilled trades experience. The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream hosted both of these drawings.

Candidates from both categories who have been invited to apply for the Provincial Nominee Program have until November 6 to do so (PNP).

In brief, the following are the requirements for each draw:

Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be invited:

• have a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer for full-time skilled work in Nova Scotia for at least one year after your permanent residence visa is approved (full-time implies working at least 30 hours per week year-round);

• possess one year of specialized work experience in a job-related field;

• possess a Canadian high school diploma or its equivalent;

• demonstrating linguistic skills in English at Canadian Language Benchmark 5; and apply by November 6, 2021, at 11:59 p.m.

The following documents must be included with your application:

• Language tests copies

• Evidence of education

• A job offer that includes your title and responsibilities for the position, the position’s NOC Code, annual salary, weekly hours worked, term of the employment offer, work address, and whether the position is unionized. If it is, include a letter from the union expressing their agreement.

Carpenters’ Draw for 44 potential candidates

The eligibility criteria for the same were as follows:

• Carpentry is your principal occupation (NOC 7271).

• To demonstrate that they have two or more years of skilled crafts experience as a carpenter, provide letters of reference from employers, as indicated in the application guide.

• Self-employed people must present paperwork from third parties that outlines the service they performed as well as payment information. Affidavits or self-declared key responsibilities are not acceptable proof of job experience.

• Have a Canadian Language Benchmark score of 5 or better in English in all language abilities, as evidenced by the results of a language test recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada; and apply before November 6, 2021.

By 2060, the province wants to increase its population from 971,000 to two million people. Nova Scotia will need to accept a large number of immigrants and promote their retention in order to achieve this. According to a 2020 survey, the biggest determining factor in whether or not immigrants stay in Nova Scotia is the available job prospects. Around 74% of immigrants who entered between 2011 and 2018 stayed in the province.

Details about the Maple Country’s Express Entry process

The Province can use the Labour Market Priorities Stream to scan Canada’s Express Entry pool for qualified applicants.

The federal government’s Express Entry system is used to manage permanent residence applications. The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class are the three main economic-class immigration programs (CEC).

If the Express Entry applicants selected in the October 7 draws obtain a provincial nomination, they will gain an additional 600 points toward their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, thereby ensuring an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

Candidates in the Express Entry system are judged on a variety of variables, including their age, education, work experience, and ability to communicate in English. According to the CRS, they are rated. The two draws did not have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
