Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream selects candidates who meet provincial labour market needs and who have received a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration.

The following criteria must be met in order to be eligible to immigrate to Nova Scotia:

  • Submit a Nova Scotia Nominee Program Letter of Interest through Express Entry.
  • Submit your application within thirty days of receiving the letter.
  • Before being placed in the Express Entry pool, you must have met the Canadian work experience requirements for at least one of the programs.
  • Need to show that you have enough money to cover the cost of your family's travel and resettlement expenses.
  • Have legal status in your current nation of residence.
  • Have a valid Express Entry number and fulfil all IRCC requirements.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities for Physicians

Physicians from India who have an approved offer from either the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre and received a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia office of Immigration may apply to this stream.

Specialist physicians (NOC 3111) and General Practitioners & family physicians (NOC 3112) will receive a Letter of Interest from NSOI once the candidate's Express Entry profile number and a signed authorized opportunity with the Nova Scotia Health Authority or IWK Health Centre have been provided.

Eligibility criteria: If you are interested in immigrating to Nova Scotia as a Physician, you must:

  • Have an approved opportunity from the NSHA or IWK as either a general practitioner and family physician (NOC 3112) or a specialist physician (NOC 3111).
  • Indicate your commitment to live and work in Nova Scotia for a minimum period of 2 years and submit a copy of a signed Return for Service Agreement with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness.
  • Have received a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program through Express Entry.
  • Submit your application within 30 days.
  • Meet the minimum work experience requirements of the Express Entry stream.
  • Show that you have enough money to cover your and your family's costs of living and travel expenses.
  • Have legal status in your current nation of residence.
  • Have a valid Express Entry number and fulfil all IRCC requirements.

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry

The Express Entry stream selects individuals who wish to reside permanently in Nova Scotia and have experience working in a highly skilled role for at least one year.

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a profile registered in the Express Entry system.
  • Have at least 1 year of work experience in Nova Scotia;
  • Your age should be between 21 to 55 years
  • Have a Canadian high school credential or equivalent.
  • You need a score of CLB 7 to work in National Occupational Classification (NOC) 0 and A and score of at least CLB 5 for NOC B positions.

Nova Scotia Physician Stream

Nova Scotia's Physician Stream supports Nova Scotia's public health authorities – the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK) – in hiring general practitioners, family physicians, and specialists to work in the province. The stream aids the NSHA and IWK in recruiting and retaining medical professionals with the necessary talents for open jobs that they were unable to fill using a permanent resident or Canadian citizen.

To be eligible for the Physician Stream -

  • You must be a general practitioner & family physician (NOC 3112) and specialist physician (NOC 3111) with an approved opportunity from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or IWK Health Centre.
  • The authorized opportunity must be on official NSHA or IWK letterhead and must be signed and dated by a person with authority to hire physicians at either the NSHA or IWK. It should be signed and dated by the applicant who is accepting the opportunity. It should also indicate eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS. Also, indicate that the applicant is eligible to apply for privileges and credentials with NSHA and the IWK.

Nova Scotia Entrepreneur Stream

The Entrepreneur Stream is for individuals who run or manage a company and want to reside in Nova Scotia. They must start a new company or purchase an existing one, and they must actively participate in the business's operations on a regular basis. After successfully running their business for 12 months, the entrepreneur may be invited to apply for permanent resident status.

If you fulfil the following criteria, you may apply:

  • To start, you will need to deposit at least $150,000 in Canadian dollars into a business in Nova Scotia.
  • Your age should be at least 21 years.
  • Have the intent to stay permanently in Nova Scotia and own and operate business there.
  • Have a net worth of at least $600,000 CAD.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in running and owning a company.
  • Have proficient score of CLB 5 or more in speaking, listening, reading and writing in the English Test.
  • Complete an online Expression of Interest.
  • Have received an Invitation to apply from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration.

Nova Scotia Skilled Worker Stream

The Skilled Worker stream helps employers in Nova Scotia to recruit foreign workers and recent international graduated students whose skills are in need in the province. An employer is only allowed to hire foreigners for positions which permanent residents or Canadian citizens cannot fill.

In order to qualify, you must have:

  • Full-time permanent job offer.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience related to the job for semi-skilled and low-skilled workers.
  • Age: should be between 21 to 55 years old.
  • Education: Should have a high school diploma.
  • Language: Prove language ability equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 if you are a skilled worker.
  • Funds: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to settle comfortably in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia's Occupation-in-Demand Stream

The Nova Scotia Employer Alliance has launched a program to develop employment in the NOC C and D categories that are in high demand. The Office of Immigration analyzes labour market data, and eligible occupations are subject to change.

Nova Scotia International Graduate Entrepreneur

The Int'l Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is for graduates of a Nova Scotia university or the Nova Scotia Community College who have already started or acquired a company in Nova Scotia and run it for at least a year. If they want to settle in Nova Scotia, they may be nominated for permanent resident status after completing their studies. Only invitation is required to apply to the program.

To be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Own and manage a business in Nova Scotia while living permanently in the province.
  • Nova Scotia entrepreneurs must have at least one year's continuous involvement in running and owning their present company (33.33% ownership requirement).
  • You must have a score of at least 7 on the Canadian Language Benchmark in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.
  • Submit an online Expression of Interest form.

If you meet all of the requirements, the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration will send you an Invitation to Apply.

Nova Scotia International Graduates in Demand Stream

The International Graduates in Demand stream is for recent international graduates whose skills correspond with certain National Occupational Classification (NOC) job categories.

Currently, this stream is open to workers falling under 2 NOC job categories:

NOC 3413 Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
NOC 4214 Early childhood educators and assistants

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following criteria:

  • Job: Have a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in your recent field of study.
  • Age: Between 21 to 55 years.
  • Education: Have a high school diploma;
  • Language: Even if your first language is English or French, you can demonstrate CLB Level 5.
  • Funds: You must have enough money saved up to cover the costs of living in Nova Scotia.

How to Apply for Nova Scotia PR?

STEP 1

If you want to apply for permanent residency in Nova Scotia, you need to choose from one of the immigration programs mentioned above.

STEP 2

Nova Scotia held two draws on October 7, 2021, inviting a total of 330 Express Entry candidates with skilled work experience.

In the largest of the two draws, 286 people were invited. The individuals in this group had a job offer from Nova Scotia, experience amounting to at least one year in a skilled occupation, as well as meeting the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requirement of level 5 or higher in English.
