How to get Australian PR visa from India?

India is the second largest source of skilled migrants to Australia and according to the Australian High Commissioner, the Government of Australia is trying to attract more skilled Indian workers to its shores. Australia has a point based immigration system where applying for an Australian PR Visa from India requires a combination of both online and offline activities.

Five key requirements to apply for an Australian PR visa from India:

1.Organize key Documents

Organize the key documents to apply for Australian PR. The two most important documents are:

  • Passport
  • Educational documents

Apart from these two, you need to have: English language proficiency test result and Skill Assessment report.  This has to be approved by a relevant assessing authority.

2. Select appropriate Visa

You have to choose the right Australian PR Visa category to apply. There are three most common PR visa categories. These are:

  • Non-sponsored  – Subclass 189
  • State Nominated – Subclass 190
  • Employer nominated – Subclass 186

3. Select an Occupation from skilled occupation list

While filling the application for Australian PR, select an occupation from the skilled occupation list (SOL). In case of non-sponsored, visa (subclass 189 visa), you need to choose your preferred occupation from the skilled occupation list of Australia. In case of any state nominated visa (subclass 190 visa), you need to pick an occupation from the skilled occupation list of that state.

4. Apply in point based system

After finishing the above mentioned steps, apply in the point based system of Australia. Submit Expression of Interest (EOI) in the online Skill Select system. Also, mention your key profile details. These include, work experience, age, education, language ability, etc. You score points based on each of your profile factors. A minimum collective score required to apply for Australian PR is at least 60 points. Furthermore, higher scores will increase your chances of securing invitation to apply for visa.

5. Health and Character Requirements for applying for Australian PR visa:

Finally, medical fitness and a good moral character are important. Go through the medical examination and character verification process. Also, submit all the relevant documents after that.

    • Hi Vinoth, getting a job abroad depends on which country you want to go to. For countries like Canada & Australia, you will need to file your PR visa first as it would be possible to get a job only after getting PR visa. For some countries like in Middle East where you cannot get a PR visa, you will have to try to find a job first before you get the work visa.
