The overseas immigration has led to an 82% increase in the population of Canada in the 2^nd Quarter of 2018.  The country has reached an unparalleled level in this period, and is also the second highest growth for the quarter after 1971, as mentioned by CIC news.

The unprecedented level of immigration was beneficial as per Statistics Canada. It has also helped to offset the record of death figures. The population of the country has increased by 168,687 in the 2^nd Quarter of 2018, out of which 82% owes to the overseas immigration. This has been a “never seen before quarter” as per Statistics Canada. The overseas immigration is calculated by adding the number of immigrants, returning emigrants and non-permanent residents arriving and then subtracting temporary emigrants and other emigrants departing Canada.

Canada welcomed new immigrants (87,661) at the national level in this quarter and apart from that there was an increase in the non-permanent residents by 60,446 which was reportedly higher than those observed in recent years.

New Brunswick and Nova Scotia experienced a natural decrease in population which was set-off by international migrants who arrived in the provinces. The same was the case with other provinces of Canada.

As per the Multi-Year Levels Immigration Plan, the country is planning to welcome nearly one million immigrants by 2020.
