Job vacancies still very high in Canada
According to the most recent Statistics Canada data, there were 874,700 unfilled employment opportunities in Canada at the end of 2021.
In November, the job vacancy rate was 5.1%, up 2.1 percentage points from before the epidemic, according to Statistics Canada. Here are some industry-wise highlights:
There were 51,500 job openings in the transportation and warehousing industry. This sector’s vacancy rate was 6.2% in November, the highest monthly rate since October 2020.
In the health care industry, there were 119,600 job openings and a vacancy rate of 5.2 percent.
There were 67,800 job vacancies in the construction industry with a vacancy rate of 5.6 percent.
In November, employment rose in the service sector, including accommodation and food services, public administration and professional, scientific, and technical services. According to Statistics Canada, most of these employment increases occurred between the conclusion of October and the start of November, when capacity limits and distance requirements were reduced for most businesses.
Overall, Canada’s employment and economic recovery improved significantly in November and is expected to improve further with Omicron wave subsiding.
