Quebec Experience Program adds new requirements

There are some major changes introduced by the Quebec government for immigrants. To obtain permanent residence, International students and those with work experience in Quebec will have to meet the requirements. The changes will affect the Quebec Experience Program or PEQ with effect from November 1st and other changes will be effective from the start of the new year.

It is not still confirmed by the province whether these changes will be affecting pending applications or not. The major change was the introduction of an in-demand occupation list for work experience applicants. The applicant who wishes to apply for PEQ (Programme de l’expérience Québécoise ) must have worked in an occupation listed in the demand list given by the Quebec government.

The new in-demand list that is rated under NOC 0, A, B should have 12 months of Quebec work experience in order to be eligible for the immigration program. Rest other occupations listed under C and D will require 18 months of work experience in the province.

The language requirement will be changing with effect from 1st January 2020 and will be applicable to PEQ applicants. Applicants will have to demonstrate their French proficiency with three options :

Meet the criteria ( set by professional order)

Should have at least completed 3 years of full-time studies in French (secondary or post-secondary level).

Take a standardized test

This change in language requirement will be imposed on spousal visa applicants as well. Both the applicants (applicant and their spouse) will have to demonstrate a high intermediate level of French or a CLB level 7 or 8 will be required.
