Three different approaches of selecting candidates – Express Entry (PNPs)

A provincial nomination is the most important factor in Express Entry’s CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) as it adds 600 points straight away to the applicant’s Express Entry ranking score. This makes the nomination a valuable factor and guarantees an Invitation to Apply for the Canadian Permanent Residence.

The different approaches used to select candidates in the past week for Express Entry linked provincial nominee programs are:

  • Expression of Interest
  • First-come, first-served
  • Passive

There are 3 PNPs which were in action last week and are especially popular, as it does not require a Canadian job offer or a minimum score for eligibility.

Prince Edward Island (PEI): Expression of Interest

Prince Edward Island (PEI) invited Express Entry candidates in a draw held on 15th November through Expression of Interest (EOI) system. The Express Entry candidates who have made them visible to the PEI’s provincial nominee program and has submitted their profile to the province were ranked by the system.

The profile showing the EOI was ranked by the scores awarded for the factors such as education, experience, and language proficiency in English or French. The candidates are then selected by PEI (Prince Edward Island) through monthly draws from the pool. After switching to EOI system PEI PNP has conducted 10 draws since February.

Nova Scotia: First-come, First-served

Nova Scotia reopened itsDemand: Express Entry Stream, it allows Express Entry candidates who are eligible to apply for provincial nomination. This PNP operates on First-come, first-served basis. Means once it’s open, it accepts the application from candidates until the quota is met and then is closed. This usually happens quickly in less than 2 hours.

Ontario: Passive

Ontario’s three passive Express-Entry streams is another PNP pathway to issue ITA for provincial nomination in past week.

Ontario’s streams – theFrench-Speaking skilled worker stream, the Human Capital Priority stream, and the Skilled Trades stream are considered as passive pathways as Express Entry candidates cannot actively apply or show an interest for nomination through them.

Submitting an Express Entry profile is the first thing to be done to be considered for the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program streams.
