Six new immigration programs launched in Canada for international graduates, essential workers and French speakers

Canada’s immigration minister, Marco Mendicino, confirmed the new initiatives on April 14. Three of the new programmes would allow 90,000 new immigrants to obtain permanent residency status this year. The other three programmes would be reserved for French-speaking immigrants, which will have no intake cap.
Mendicino said that the move would be necessary to recover from 2020, a year of lower immigration.
Canada has also held a new Express Entry draw after this announcement was made.
These new programs will be offered to:
• temporary workers employed in hospitals,
• long-term care homes,
• workers employed on the frontlines of other essential sectors,
• international student graduates from Canadian educational institutions.

From May 6, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin accepting applications for the three following streams:
• 20,000 applications for temporary health-care jobs
• 30,000 applications for temporary jobs in selected essential occupations
• 40,000 applications for foreign students who have graduated from a Canadian educational institution.

Eligibility:
• Minimum 1year of Canadian work experience in a healthcare profession or another pre-approved essential occupation
• International graduates shall have a degree from an eligible Canadian post-secondary program during the last four years, and no earlier than January 2017.
• Graduates and workers must be proficient in one of Canada’s official languages

Note: The intake of these applications will remain open until November 5, 2021, or until the application reaches its prescribed limit.
