As per Immigration Minister, David Coleman, Regional
visa holders will have to prove their stay in a particular region for regional
visas to qualify for Australian PR (permanent residence). This was confirmed by
the Immigration minister that these new visas will allow immigrants to live and
work in regional Australia. After successful completion of 3 years stays in the
regional area the Regional visa holders can apply for Permanent Residence.

The government confirmed that the applicant’s details
will be assessed and scrutinized for their PR application. More details for
these visas are not been disclosed by the government. Mr. Coleman said that the
Regional visa holders will have to prove that they have worked and lived in the
particular region for 3 years and will also have to provide other proofs such
as bank details, residential details, etc. Unless these details are not
provided the immigrant will not be provided with permanent residence status.

The main reason for moving immigrants to regional
areas is the fill the skill gaps in these areas. The new policy will also
encourage international students to study at Regional universities and move to
regional areas. Students opting to study at Regional university will get an
additional year on their Graduate visa i.e they will get 3 years instead of 2
years.
