Why Canada? And not any other place on planet Earth

Why Canada, not any other place on earth

Why is Canada still so popular among those wanting to migrate from their country of origin because of economic or other reasons? The answer is that Canada remains a rare country where sentiments with regard to immigration still remain positive. Most Canadian citizens have a positive view when it comes to the question of accepting more immigrants into their country. They believe that immigrants help in boosting economic growth of their country. No wonder then, that around 250000 immigrants are given work visas every year in Canada.

One of the main reasons behind anti-immigration sentiments in many developed countries of the Western world is the perception among local people that economic immigrants end up taking their jobs. These immigrants are often ready to work at lower wages and therefore bring down the overall wage rate in that country. But Canadians believe otherwise. A recent survey found that most Canadians believe that immigrants help in creating new jobs instead of taking away old ones.

However, in spite of these positive sentiments, immigration into Canada is not a cakewalk. The country’s immigration policy is such that only those with required skills and competencies get immigration permits and work visas.

The Canadian government and people celebrate multiculturalism. At the same time they expect immigrants to be fluent in the languages spoken in Canada. The most widely spoken languages in Canada are English and French. So if you are fluent in these two languages, then your chance of getting a work visa for Canada goes up considerably. It is advisable for those wanting to migrate to Canada on a permanent basis to learn French. One should be willing to assimilate in the culture of that country if he/she wants to lead a fruitful and happy life after migrating there.

Attitude towards immigrants is slightly hostile in the province of Quebec, when compared to other provinces of Canada. The province of Ontario, on the other hand, is perceived to be very friendly and welcoming towards immigrants.
