Canada to Welcome Approx. 1 million Immigrants by 2020

welcome to canada

Yes! You heard it right. As per the reports, the Canadian government has open doors for more
immigrants this year (2018) and for coming two more years (2019 and 2020). Canada is one of the
world’s popular nations for international immigration and plans to bring more skilled workers and
immigrants in their country by the year 2020.
The government has released a “historic and responsible” immigration plan for coming 3 years (2018 –
2020) with a target to welcome nearly 1 million new permanent residents to the country. Majority of
this immigration will take place through “Express Entry” program. IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and
Citizenship Canada) has lowered the cut-off grades to allow more and more ITAs to be issued for the
prospective immigrants. IRCC is making Express Entry it’s primary drive for economic immigrants and
hence it the best time to apply for Canada.

Besides this, other provinces in Canada are set to enhance their own Express Entry immigration stream.
It can vary from General Express Entry nominations to Occupation in-demand specific nominations.
Province Nominee Program (PNP) allows province and territories to nominate individuals to settle in
their provincial labor market as per their ability.
This year Alberta is set to join other provinces in offering enhanced Express Entry stream but the exact
criteria remain unknown as of now. Other provinces have taken a dynamic approach on Express Entry
and PNP streams. Ontario has targeted candidates with specific occupations notably Information and
Technology (IT). Saskatchewan expanded its in-demand occupation list and Nova Scotia re-opened its
popular Express Entry “Demand” scheme. British Columbia has also launched Tech- Pilot with more
IT/Tech occupations specific nominations through Express Entry.

Apart from Express Entry and PNP programs, Canada will focus on Family Class Program. This program
will allow spouses, common-law partners, children, dependents, parents, and grandparents of Canadian citizens and Permanent residents to join them.
