Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program in PEI, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia playing a major role in population growth

PEI, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia playing a major role in population growth

As per a new report by Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, immigration is playing a key role in population growth in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick provinces. These three provinces are collectively known as the Maritime Provinces of Canada. They have managed to attract and retain skilled foreign workers and their families in recent years.

Prince Edward Island (PEI) experienced “incredible” population growth of two percent every year since 2016, as reported by APEC (Atlantic Provinces Economic Council). The reports also mentioned that the biggest contributor was the international immigration, it was recorded as the largest number of new immigrants in Canada in the year 2016 to 2018 almost the size of its population.

As per the council, Nova Scotia reported average growth of 0.8 percent during the same period (2016-2018) which was the fastest since the mid-1980s.

The annual growth rate of New Brunswick was reported at 0.5 percent and was supposed to be the highest since the early 1990s.

The only province in Atlantic Canada to register a negative growth rate was New Found land and Labrador with a decrease in population by 0.2 percent every year.
