An official or diplomatic visa shows that Canada intends to give official status to the person holding the passport. Most of the times, Canada remains committed to extend official status in cases where such visas have been issued abroad, It is of utmost importance to differentiate between situations involving official or diplomatic visas and the ones with regular visitor visas

Travelers with official or diplomatic passports do not require Electronic Travel Authorization or temporary resident visas. This is subject to two conditions
-If they are carrying a passport that has an official Acceptance, diplomatic Acceptance or consular Acceptance, which is issued on behalf of Canadian government by Chief of Protocol for Foreign Affairs and International Trade
– if they are accredited diplomats, representatives of another country or a United Nations agency or any other international organization that Canada is a part of.

Diplomats are exempted from Electronic Travel Authorization and visa requirements if they carry a passport that has a consular acceptance, diplomatic acceptance or Chief of Protocol for the Department of Foreign Affairs’ official acceptance.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Electronic Travel Authorization required foreign officials visiting Canada to take up diplomatic ranks for which there has been no official acceptance must apply for Electronic Travel Authorization Visa required foreign officials visiting Canada to take up diplomatic ranks for which there has been no official acceptance must apply for a temporary resident visa prior to travelling to Canada.

Apart from the above, diplomatic visas can be issued to help foreign officials who are eligible for visa and Electronic Travel Authorization, if they carry evidence of Canada’s consent to official visits by foreign officials. There is no processing fee for diplomatic visas.
