What is ‘Canadian Work Experience’?



Have you just shifted to Canada or planning to migrate there? If a job is on your mind then you should know in Canada it is very important to have ‘Canadian work experience’ in order to get the job that you seek. It is unjustified to a certain extent. You have your credentials in place. You have enough work experience to know your trade well. But you still might not be able to impress the employers in Canada.

Employers often seek candidates with Canadian experience as they prefer employees who are well versed with the Canadian way of life. This includes society, laws and work culture. The way we deal with situations in life is based on the society that we live in and differs from person to person. Canadian employers believe that an employee with Canadian work experience will easily gel with other employees.

Knowing English or French might be an advantage. Remember that you might have an accent. But what matters is whether you are able to understand the local language, and convey your messages and ideas clearly. Having a certification from a Canadian institute can help you get noticed. It doesn’t have to be a degree. There are a lot of short courses that are relevant to the job that you are seeking. Enroll in one of those courses as it will give you an edge over the rest of the job seekers.

Make sure you highlight the skills that are required to excel in that job that you’re applying for. People tend to overload their resume with wide experience and credentials. Instead of impressing the employer, this confuses them. You should know how to sell your skill because that’s what separates the smart ones from the rest.

There are a lot of local agencies that offer assistance to candidates seeking employment in Canada. They offer advanced English lessons, interview tips and training, and even get you  interview calls from various Canadian companies.
