The population of Canada has reached 37,314,442 on 1st Jan 2019. A report reveals how immigration continues to be the main driver of growth in the population of Canada. There was a total increase of 321, 065 new immigrants in the year 2018.

Canada’s population reached 37,314,442 by the start of 2019 following a record increase of immigrants in the fourth quarter of 2018. The population of Canada grew by over half a million by the end of 2018. International migration showed an increase of 80.5 % of the growth representing a combined of new immigrants and temporary residents of the country.

Temporary residents are the individuals who have legal rights to live in Canada on a temporary basis either on Student permit or a work visa or a visitor visa or any other temporary status granted by IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada).
